At Winterville United Methodist
Church, we strive to be an authentic, loving people who seek to make
disciples of Jesus Christ by loving God and loving others.
We live out this mission by
serving persons of various ages, race and economic status both inside and
outside the church through a variety of programs, mission events and
fellowship opportunities.

Milestones In Our Church's History
1859 - On July 20 Sarah Hart Pittard deeded to Line Church
trustees 1-1/4 acres of land "near the railroad watering station" for a
house of worship. Isaac M. King assigned as pastor of the church by
the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
Circa 1867 - The Winterville Church became a part of the
Lexington Circuit. About a year before a new Oglethorpe County post
office had been given the name Winterville.
1871 - Circuit parsonage built (now 194 South Main Street).
1887 - Second church building erected (the building faced
the railroad).
1921 - Present church building erected.
1954 - New parsonage built (215 North Church Street) for
the church's first full-time pastor.
1963 - Educational annex added to southwest side of church
building (dedicated in 1974).
1984 - Methodist Youth Fellowship "Logos" performed one-act
play written by Grady C. Pittard in celebration of the 125th anniversary
of the founding of the church.
199? - Renovated Fellowship Hall installing a door to the
exterior.
2001 - Built new church sign at street level.
2002 - Remodeled sanctuary with new pew cushions and
carpet. Installed new Sound System.
2003 - Began rotation model Sunday School program which
included remodeling education wing and SS classes.
2004 - Renovated Nursery including adding door access to
playground; renovated and expanded playground; made education wing
handicap accessible onto first first floor, acquired bus and a new organ.
